(Thursday, March 11, 2010) – Mayor Robert J. Duffy today submitted legislation seeking City Council’s approval to sell the City’s land in the Hemlock Lake and Canadice Lake watersheds to New York State. The City is seeking authorization to sell approximately 6,832 acres of watershed properties in the Livingston County towns of Livonia, Conesus and Springwater and the Ontario County towns of Richmond and Canadice to the State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) for nearly $13.7 million.

(Monday, March 8, 2010) – The Maplewood Neighborhood Association is seeking vendors of arts, crafts and horticultural-related items to participate in the 20th annual Rose Celebration weekend. The event is to be held on June 19 and 20 in the historic Maplewood Rose Garden. Thousands are expected to attend to revel in the beauty of over 5,000 roses of 300-plus varieties, partake in the workshops and tours and experience the beauty and history of the Lower Gorge of the Genesee.

(Monday, March 8, 2010) – Organizers of the Lakeside Winter Festival announced today that over 14,000 samples of chili were distributed by contestants at this year’s “Chilly Chili Challenge,” held Feb. 14 at the Port of Rochester Terminal.

I am in Washington, D.C. today to testify before the House Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management on the issue of federal response to disasters in U.S. Cities and therefore cannot personally address the claims made by the Students for a Democratic Society during their news conference yesterday that students are not being given a voice on school governance reform through mayoral accountability. I first met with this group following their altercation with authorities last year.
(Wednesday, March 3, 2010) - Police Chief David Moore has advised me that he is no longer a candidate for the position of Chief of the Dallas, Tex. Police Department. Chief Moore withdrew his candidacy for that job on the same day he withdrew his name from the pool of candidates for the Police Chief’s job in Albany, N.Y.
